Last week I helped my brother set up a new Mohu Sky 60 antenna in his attic. The Sky 60 antenna is a multidirectional antenna and was replacing a direction antenna he already had. With his old antenna he was unable to receive NBC and a few other smaller channels. If he moved it to pick up NBC he lost other important channels. Well the old one promised a 90 mile range the widely different directions to the broadcast towers meant he was unable to pull them all in. The broadcast towers around his house ranged from 20 miles to 40 miles. The Sky 60 is designed to pick up signals from 60 miles away so this antenna was perfect for his needs.

The antenna constructed of very high quality material with a solid outer shell. Setting up the Sky 60 was very quick and easy. It came with a 30 foot cable and a CleanPeak™ filter technology provides low noise, state-of-the-art amplification. The 30 foot cable was perfect for running it through my brother’s walls to the living room from the attic. The CleanPeak filter did a great job with the signal delivering clear and crisp HD quality superior to anything I saw with my old satellite service.

After installation he went from 20 channels to 26 channels adding NBC and the local MyTV affiliate. This was a big pick up as it added real content not just the local shopping network. The 60 mile range of the Sky 60 is surprisingly good. Even in a heavily built up area the antenna did a great job picking up local channels with some well over 40 miles away.

Unless you are at the very edge of your broadcast tower I suggest going with a multidirectional antenna like the Sky 60. This will help you avoid issues like my brother had with broadcast towers off in different directions.

I’m going to give the antenna a 10 out of 10 for both quality or reception and the quality of construction. The setup was easy and quick with no special tools needed.

The Mohu Sky 60 Outdoor TV Antenna is a great workhorse in the right hands—or rather, the right environment. Its 75-mile reception range isn’t far-reaching, but it is omni-directional, and its built-in amplifier keeps the signal strong.

Performance

Powered by a power cube or USB port, the Mohu Sky 60 Outdoor TV Antenna does a surprisingly fine job of capturing HD channels. Its range is one thing, but its quality is another. This is because it has an amplifier to help it seize those channels from nearby towers, and present them to you in the clearest picture possible (weather permitting).

Ease of Install

The Sky HDTV Antenna Mohu is incredibly easy to install. It comes in two parts: the pole, and the unit itself. Screw the pole to the unit (four screws), then install the pole to your desired position. Since this is an omni-directional unit, you don’t have to accurately point the antenna to specific broadcast towers.

Durability

While it won’t win any durability awards anytime soon, due to the use of plastic and metal, the Mohu Sky 60 is an outdoor antenna, unlike the Mohu Leaf. You can safely install it to the outside of your home and never think twice, just as you can with the Antennas Direct Clearstream.

Range

Despite being more expensive than the Channel Master Outdoor TV Antenna, the range is slightly shorter at 75 miles to the Channel Master’s 80 miles. It isn’t a huge difference, largely due to the Mohy Sky 60 having an arguably better reception.

Value

It doesn’t matter how much a TV antenna offers, spending $175 on the Mohu Sky 60 Outdoor TV Antenna is a big investment. However, the Mohu Sky 60 makes an effort to offer as much as it can to sweeten the deal. It aims for quality rather than quantity, from its reception strength to its dual powering option. You also get everything you need, including the coaxial cable and USB cable, unlike the RCA Yagi Outdoor TV Antenna. If you are on a tight budget, you can opt for Channel Master Omni+ 50 which is affordable and works great.
