YouTube TV announced on Wednesday it will drop the digital-centric news channel Newsy from its lineup.
The removal comes as Newsy and Scripps transition the network away from carriage on cable and satellite in favor of distribution on free digital broadcast television, with Scripps-owned Ion Television stations set to debut the channel later this year.
In a notice sent to customers on Wednesday, officials at YouTube TV said the decision to remove the channel was not theirs, but was made at Newsy’s request due to their business model shift.
A streaming variant of Newsy is free to access on other platforms, YouTube TV said, including on ViacomCBS-owned Pluto TV, the Roku Channel and on Newsy’s own apps for Android TV, Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV.
Earlier this month, wallet-friendly streaming service Philo dropped Newsy from its lineup in anticipation of the change. A spokesperson for the service said technical issues with a feed provided by Newsy resulted in both sides ultimately agreeing to remove the channel early from Philo’s lineup.
